When Paul McCartney wrote the lyrics to his famous song, Blackbird, he did so with a nod to the rising empowerment of black people in the 1960s. He was inspired by imagining a black woman.
At the time not many of us knew Paul's inspiration from the civil rights movement. We were just moved by the beauty of the lyrics. Paul (and The Beatles in general) always gave us license to provide our own meanings to his songs.
When I began what is now Blackbirds Rising, the phrase in Paul's song, "You were only waiting for this moment to arise." So many of us wait upon the rising within us of a greater grasp of the meaning to life, especially in our relationship with the divine, however we may see it.
Later I learned of the deep mystical meanings in the symbol of the blackbird.
